Chicago Bears NFL Draft: 5 wildcard options at pick number 9
By Ryan Heckman
Wildcard options for the Chicago Bears at pick number 9: Jordan Addison, WR
The debate for this year’s number one wide receiver is still open, but the candidates are limited. Some say that it is still Quentin Johnston out of TCU. Others will tell you that it is Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, arguably the draft’s best route runner.
Still, Jordan Addison will be off the board at some point in round one, and for good reason. The former Trojan comes into the league with decent, but not great size at 5-foot-11. He has the ability to win all over the field, though, whether it’s lining up in the slot or on the outside.
Addison is slippery and fluid with his movements, but in tight coverage he can also make the tougher grabs. He is a surefire first rounder, but many have him projected as a later first-round pick. If the Bears took him at nine, it wouldn’t quite be a bad pick, but more so questionable.
He’s great player, but is Addison worth taking that high? If the Bears want him, they could very well trade back a bit and get him. Is wide receiver a need after acquiring D.J. Moore? Not really, but he would give the Bears an embarrassment of riches just a year after having the exact opposite.
