Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Ryan Poles gets selfish and obsessive
By Ryan Heckman
If there was ever a project-type of cornerback worth drafting in the middle rounds, Jakorian Bennett is your guy. The Maryland product has so much to love about his game and potential. He has ideal size at 5-foot-11 and weighing 188 pounds.
Bennett ran a blistering 4.3 in his 40-yard dash at the 2023 Combine, putting the league on notice that he’s one of this year’s fastest players. His speed allows him to keep up with just about any wideout he faces, but where he struggles is more mentally.
Although he possesses speed, fluid hips and solid footwork, Bennett has a tough time diagnosing plays on occasion. He’ll take a lesser-calculated risk that won’t pay off, and that’s where some coaching will come into play.
At the same time, Bennett also makes a ton of big plays. Over the past two seasons, he tallied 27 passes defensed, which is an astounding number for a guy you’re getting in the fifth round.
The Bears need depth at corner, and Bennett has the chance to challenge Kindle Vildor on the outside if they want to keep Kyler Gordon in the slot.
