Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Ryan Poles gets selfish and obsessive
By Ryan Heckman
At the start of free agency, the Bears missed out on some of the top free agent tackles in this year’s class. It all started with Mike McGlinchey, who ended up signing for a bit more money than the Bears were willing to spend. Signing with Denver, McGlinchey cut short the Bears’ hopes they could land a franchise tackle.
Instead, the Bears now turn their attention to the draft as other tackles like Jawaan Taylor, Kaleb McGary and Orlando Brown Jr. signed elsewhere.
To get themselves another starting tackle, Poles goes big and trades up to the first pick in the second round.
With the 33rd overall pick in the draft, the Bears go right back to the Ohio State well. They take tackle Dawand Jones, who will step right in and start at right tackle, allowing Braxton Jones to stay at left tackle for the foreseeable future.
Jones stands a ridiculous 6-foot-8 and weighs 375 pounds. This is a massive man with great length who will give the Bears a consistency at right tackle that they have been needing. Larry Broom immediately becomes a valuable backup, but Fields gets the protection he deserves on the right side with Jones coming in.
