Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Ryan Poles gets selfish and obsessive

In the past couple of weeks, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles has done a number with his roster.

It seems the narrative around Justin Fields and this team, as a whole, is changing by the minute. We’ve gone from national outlets making fun of this team, not believing in Fields and thinking the Bears should trade their young quarterback, to other national outlets picking him as a top-5 quarterback in the NFC.

My, my, how times have changed. If we’ve learned anything over the past few weeks, Fields is a clear-cut winner thus far during the offseason.

In our most recent mock draft, we play general manager and we play it greedily. In this one, Poles gets selfish and goes big, just so that his franchise quarterback has absolutely everything he needs going into this season.

For months now, I have been talking up Jaxon Smith-Njigba as this draft’s best receiver. Some think it’s Quentin Johnston. Others will tell you Jordan Addison. However, Smith-Njigba was so good in 2021 and people forgot just how good.

Don’t forget, this is a receiver that both Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson agreed was the best receiver on that Ohio State team when all three played together.

The Bears snag him at pick no. 9 without a clear-cut need at wide receiver, yet they do so because they want to give Fields the most powerful set of weapons they could possibly give him.

Smith-Njigba is by far and away the best route runner in this year’s class. He can play outside or in the slot, but he’s absolutely lethal from the slot. Giving Fields someone who will always be open, catch the ball, and make moves up field will prove to be that final cherry on top for Poles and this Bears offense.

Smith-Njigba joins D.J. Moore, Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool as a well-rounded foursome of talent at the wide receiver position. Fields is a happy man, and he’s about to get happier.
