There are a couple of players that Chicago Cubs fans will miss in 2023.

1: Willson Contreras

The Chicago Cubs lost a franchise icon over the off-season. After declining to trade him for literally anything in 2022, they let him reach the winter so he could become an unrestricted free agent. Of course, he chose to test the market so that he can get paid by a great team.

Not only did he choose a great team, but he also chose the one really great team in the NL Central Division. He also went to the one team that all Cubs fans would have wanted him to avoid. He chose the St. Louis Cardinals.

He will join Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt as the stars of that team that is trying to make a postseason run. It may hurt to see him in Cardinal red for Cubs fans but they will certainly miss his passion and good performances on the field almost daily.

2. David Robertson

David Robertson, to a lesser extent, is a player that was on the 2022 Cubs that they will miss this year. They traded him away at the trade deadline which was nice because that means that he was pitching well enough for a good team to want him.

Now, he is on the New York Mets and could get some closing time now that Edwin Diaz is out for the year. It will be tough for the Cubs if they have bullpen trouble and they see Robertson succeeding on that team instead.
