Chicago Bears Mock Draft: A post-David Montgomery edition
By Ryan Heckman
Poles has done an immaculate job turning over the linebacker position during free agency, but once again, the best player on the board comes to Chicago, here. With Dorian Williams sitting here at pick number 137, Poles can’t help himself. Williams is a Bear.
Although the team has Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards and Jack Sanborn already locked and loaded, Williams will come in and likely challenge Sanborn for a starting spot. If anything, the depth here is going to be fantastic within the linebacker core.
Williams is a tad small at 6-foot-1 and 228 pounds, but he’s very good in coverage. He’s a smart player when it comes to defending the pass. He’s also a sure tackler, which is something Bears fans aren’t necessarily used to seeing over the past few seasons. Williams is a strong get here by Poles.
With their next pick in the fifth round, Poles and the Bears attack the defensive line again by going with Wake Forest defensive lineman Kobie Turner.
Like Kancey, Turner stands 6-foot-2 and weighs in the 280’s. He’s a smaller, but possesses great agility. He can move well for an interior lineman. Turner has also shown the ability to line up at a variety of spots up front. Those types are valuable, especially if Chicago decides to run certain stunts and fronts. Turner can move well enough where he’ll be able to shoot an opposite gap quickly if asked to.
