The Chicago Bears hit a home run with this free agent signing
The Chicago Bears are having themselves an off-season. It started by lucking into the first overall pick. They then traded it away for an absolute haul that has Ryan Poles in everyone’s good graces. Now, he is looking to keep it going as the off-season rolls along.
On Monday, the free agency opened in the NFL. The Chicago Bears didn’t end up signing Mike McGlinchey who is who everyone thought they were going to sign. The Denver Broncos ended up signing him instead to help their offensive line. They paid him a lot of money so it could be good.
Meanwhile, the Bears opened their free agency season by signing T.J. Edwards from the Philadelphia Eagles. Obviously, a guy like that coming from the Super Bowl runner-up is going to help them with their linebacker room.
It didn’t end there for Poles on Monday though. The linebacker room is getting yet another stud as Tremaine Edmunds is coming to the Chicago Bears from the Buffalo Bills. This is a move that you would consider to be a big-time splash for Poles and his staff.
The Chicago Bears are trying to improve their entire team which is a good sign.
Their defense got a lot better on Monday which is what they need to see. Obviously, there are a lot more moves that need to be made with this group but this is a good start.
Other free agency moves are going to probably influence how they handle the draft as well. You can probably rule out a linebacker with a high pick.
Edmunds comes from that Bills team that was so great last year and the past few seasons. Obviously, the Bears think highly of him because he is getting the largest four-year contract in the history of NFL ILBs. That is an incredible accomplishment for him.
The Bills selected Edmunds in the first round (16th overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft He already has five years of experience with two Pro Bowl appearances and he is only 24 years old. He will be 25 by the time the 2023 season kicks off.
The first day of free agency has surely been filled with news. It would be nice to see the Bears keep doing what they can to improve their present and future. Adding a guy like Tremaine Edmunds is a great addition that will be a big help.
