Running backs to replace Chicago Bears free agent David Montgomery: Kareem Hunt
Since getting his second chance in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Kareem Hunt has taken full advantage of his opportunities. He has run behind Nick Chubb for the entirety of his four seasons in Cleveland, but has also been regarded as one of the league’s top third down backs, and backups in general.
Hunt is a powerful runner, who would actually function very well in either an early down fashion or a third down back. He’s versatile in the fact that he can run hard between the tackles, but he’ll also break one every now and again. Hunt is also a natural pass-catcher who has gone over 30 receptions in four seasons during his six-year career.
While he might be 27 years old, Hunt has a lot of tread left on his tires. He has yet to take on the role of an every-down back for an entire season, other than his rookie year back in 2017 with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Coming to Chicago, Hunt would fit the aggressive, nasty mold that the Bears want to establish with their run game. He’d be a solid signing and likely wouldn’t cost as much as the other guys on this list.
