Players the Chicago Bears should avoid with the 9th overall pick: EDGE Nolan Smith, Georgia

Every year, the NFL Combine is one of the best few days of the offseason. Fans love watching the next generation of prospects partaking in certain drills and tests, and every year, there are a few select players who rise a significant amount after their Combine performance.

One of those players, this year, is Georgia standout defensive end Nolan Smith. He is a unicorn type of player and physically impressive.

At the Combine this year, Smith ran a 4.39 in his 40-yard dash. For the record, that’s the same speed in which Justin Fields ran it two years ago, and Smith plays defensive line. He also reached a 41.5-inch vertical jump, which was eye-popping.

Now, at just 6-foot-2 and 238 pounds, Smith is far undersized for a defensive end. He wouldn’t quite fit the 4-3 system in Chicago. Not to mention, this is way too high for a guy who solidified himself as a first-round talent. He’ll go in the final 10-12 picks of the round, but in the top 10? That’s too high. The Bears could trade back and gain greater value if they had their eyes on that type of player.
