The Chicago Blackhawks traded Patrick Kane away to the New York Rangers last week. It took him a while to have a good game with them but that finally came on Thursday night when they took on the Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs and Rags traded goals early in the game which led to a 3-2 Montreal lead. At 14:21 of the second period, however, Patrick Kane scored his first goal in a Rangers jersey. It was assisted by Adam Fox and Artemi Panarin. It is fitting that Kane’s first goal with them was assisted by Panarin.

Earlier in the same period, both Panarin and Kane had an assist on a goal scored by Jacob Trouba. That Kane goal would end up being the last one scored in regulation as the two teams got to overtime tied at three. The assist came at even strength while the goal was on the power play.

After a 3 on 3 overtime period still knotted up, it went to a shootout. Kane didn’t get a chance in the shootout because Mika Zibanejad ended the game for the Rangers before they could send him. Every other shooter on both teams was either stopped or missed the goal.

Patrick Kane scored a goal that led to a win for his new team on Thursday night.

It was cool to see Kane finally get a win and collect some points in the meantime. It was a rough start but it is looking like he had his legs going well in this one. Hopefully, that continues for him as he starts to get settled with his new team.

Kane will always mean a lot to Chicago Blackhawks fans so it is fair to keep track of how he is doing with his new team. It will be the same story if/when he switches teams this summer. This is one of the greatest players ever and he played for Chicago.

Patrick Kane will be back in action against his hometown Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon. As for the Blackhawks, they will follow up their close loss to the Detroit Red Wings with a Friday night matchup against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise. It will be an interesting weekend in the NHL.
