Chicago Blackhawks pull off shocking win vs Ottawa Senators
The Chicago Blackhawks came into Monday night’s game against the Ottawa Senators on a four-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Ottawa was one of the hottest teams in the NHL on a five-game heater. It was looking like an extremely tough matchup.
Early in the first period, Philipp Kurashev scored to give the Blackhawks a 1-0 lead. Following that, two goals by Seth Jones gave the Blackhawks a 3-0 lead and made it three straight games with a goal for the Hawks’ leading scorer. At this rate, he’ll finish the season as the leader in both goals and points.
Two more goals were added by Jason Dickinson and Lukas Reichel giving the Hawks a 5-0 lead and that score would stick.
It was an amazing way for the team to end their losing streak while seeing the Sens end their winning streak. Yeah, the tank for Bedard is on but they can’t lose literally every game.
The Chicago Blackhawks pulled out a huge win over a very good team.
Reichel’s goal is very exciting to see. It was his second in the National Hockey League. There should be plenty more where that came from. He should be with the team until the AHL playoffs begin now that there is plenty of space on the roster.
It would be nice to see the Hawks get one of Connor Bedard or Adam Fantilli so they can help the Hawks unlock Reichel’s full potential. Seeing him play well now is a great sign of what could be in the future as the supporting cast gets better.
Alex Stalock has resurrected his career this season with the Blackhawks. That is a bit strange as this Blackhawks team isn’t really built to help any goalies in the “playing well” department.
In this win over Ottawa, he made 35 saves on 35 shots for his 2nd shutout of the season. He also mixed up a little bit with some of the Ottawa skaters which was fun to watch. He and Brady Tkachuk didn’t have anything nice to say to each other.
One Blackhawks player that deserves some recognition for this game as well is Anders Bjork who they acquired at the deadline. He isn’t necessarily a piece for the future but they are seeing what he can do while they rebuild. In this one, he was the game’s second star with three assists.
There are going to be a lot of losses down the stretch here so enjoy a big win over a great Ottawa team that was on fire. Next up comes a game on Wednesday night vs the Detroit Red Wings on National TV.
