Chicago Bears News: Aaron Rodgers leaving Green Bay Packers becoming reality
The NFL offseason is here and that means the Chicago Bears fans are once again on the carousel ride of watching the drama unfold between quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his current team, the Green Bay Packers.
It wouldn’t be an NFL offseason if Rodgers was not contemplating leaving the Packers’ organization but it would appear that the rumors may have more truth to them this offseason than they have had in recent years.
NFL insider Trey Wingo broke news on Monday night that Rodgers has already had a conversation with the New York Jets about being their quarterback.
While Rodgers has certainly flirted with the idea of leaving the Packers’ organization in recent seasons, he has never reached the point where he had actually had conversations with another team.
The idea of Rodgers joining the Jets saw an uptick on Monday as free agent quarterback Derek Carr opted to sign a 4-year deal with the New Orleans Saints. The Jets were believed to be very interested in Carr but were not ready to commit to the former Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback given the mutual interest there would seem to be between the team and Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers leaving the NFC North would open the division up for the Chicago Bears.
There is also a step as part of this process that is being overlooked. Rodgers is under contract with the Packers. Meaning, the Packers would have needed to give permission to the Jets to speak with their quarterback. The fact that the Packers gave that permission to the Jets is a clear indicator that the team is ready to move on from Rodgers.
Rodgers leaving the NFC North would certainly be a great kickstart to the Bears’ offseason. The Bears already control the narrative of the NFL offseason with having the most cap space available of any NFL team as well as having the first overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Rodgers leaving the Packers does not make the Bears a clear frontrunner in the NFC North but does make the climb to the top more attainable.
