The Chicago Blackhawks are a bad team that came into Monday night’s game on a four-game losing streak. On the flip side, the Ottawa Senators came in on a five-game winning streak as they try to surge toward the Eastern Conference Wild Card.

When the Hawks pulled out a 5-0 victory, it was awesome to see as they aren’t going to win a lot over the last month or so of the season. With a red-hot team being the one that became a victim of the best Blackhawks effort of the season, it made it even better.

With the feelings about the game aside, it was good to see Alex DeBrincat back at the United Center. During his time with the Blackhawks, he was one of the best young players in the National Hockey League. He earned the right to be considered a top player on a good team like Ottawa.

In his return, the Hawks made a great effort to show their appreciation for him. During one of the TV timeouts, they presented a very nice video tribute to him and he was emotional watching it. It was just a feel-good moment that made you wish they could have been a better team with him.

DeBrincat is still an RFA after this season. He is going to be looking for an upgrade to his number as he makes 6.4 million against the cap under his current deal. Ottawa will be looking to extend him to a long-term contract once the season is over. They have his rights.

If he makes it clear that he doesn’t want to be there in the long term though, they might look to trade him in some way, shape, or form. Every team in the league would like to have him. It would be nice to see him come back to Chicago but they might not be good during his true prime.

So far this season, it is clear that he is still getting used to things in Ottawa. He isn’t having a bad year by any means but we know he is even better than this. He currently has 20 goals and 34 assists for 54 points in 63 games played. He will come very short of his 40-goal height.

With that said, don’t be surprised if he stays in Ottawa and scores even more as he gets used to things. With studs like Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle, Claude Giroux, and Drake Batherson amongst other great forwards, he is just one of the many great offensive players.

In Chicago, it was all on him and Patrick Kane. Now, both of them are gone and the team will continue to rebuild. Hopefully, the return that came back for DeBrincat helps the Hawks win while he continues to have a wonderful career.
