Chicago Bears Free Agency: 3 ideal offensive line targets
By Ryan Heckman
In about a week and a half, the Chicago Bears have some power to create a gigantic shift across the NFL.
With the free agency period starting and Chicago boasting the most cap space in all of football, they can go out and pick from a few top names that they’d like to sign if they really wanted to.
The full power shift could come later when the 2023 NFL Draft takes center stage, with the Bears having the first overall pick, but that’s a story for another day. Right now, we focus on free agency and the Bears’ top needs.
Priority number one is surrounding third-year quarterback Justin Fields with the type of talent he deserves, and at all positions. For the sake of his own health, offensive line must be a priority. Let’s take a look at some of the very best offensive line targets for the Bears in free agency, starting on the interior.
Ideal free agent offensive line targets for the Chicago Bears: Dalton Risner, G
First up, we have Denver Broncos free agent guard Dalton Eisner who is one of the top free agent interior linemen available. At 27 years old, Risner is looking at his first real chance to cash in off his rookie deal. He came into the league as an older rookie, so this is a big offseason for him.
Eisner is a punishing guard who is great in pass protection; something the Bears have to focus on with Fields’ future in mind.
In 1,000 snaps played last year, Risner only allowed three sacks in Denver while being called for just a single penalty. Those are some impressive numbers, especially for an offense that was mostly a mess last season.
If he came to the Bears, Chicago’s interior would be shored up immediately, and hopefully from there on out, a starting center would be in the near future.
