Bears: We know what the next big Chicago sports trade is
Since the end of the NFL season, Chicago Bears fans have been excited about what the future might bring because they have the first overall pick. In the meantime, folks are enjoying the other outstanding sports in town as well.
The trade deadlines have come and gone in both the NBA and the NHL. The Bulls were one of just two teams in the entire league that didn’t make a single trade so that was a little bit of a letdown for those hoping that they can at least make it to the play-in series.
As for the Chicago Blackhawks, they were one of the most active sellers of any team in the NHL. They traded some very good players like Jake McCabe, Max Domi, and Sam Lafferty but nothing is as big as the move to send Patrick Kane to the New York Rangers.
That is one of the biggest names to ever be traded out of Chicago as the Hawks are now fully rebuilding. There are very few players as good as Kane that come through your city in a lifetime but they sure got the most out of him. Now it is time to build the roster back up with good young talent.
The Chicago Bears know a thing or two about that kind of plan as they are hoping to do the same thing here over the next couple of years. In fact, now that Kane is traded, we know what the next big trade in town is going to be.
The Chicago Bears are going to be the next team in town to make a huge trade.
The NBA and NHL trade deadlines, as mentioned before, are passed so there won’t be any more moves there until the summer. There also won’t be any big Chicago White Sox or Chicago Cubs trades for a while too as they are in the early stages of spring training.
That leaves those Bears. The next huge move that is going to make headlines is the trade of that first overall pick. They are going to trade it to a team desperate for a quarterback. A quarterback-desperate squad like that is going to overpay for it by a lot.
Plenty of teams are going to try and move up. The Bears don’t need to worry about the quarterback situation because they believe in Justin Fields. He is going to be the guy that runs the show for a while so they might as well move down a few spots and get a haul in the meantime.
This might not be the same as trading away a Chicago legend but it will make waves across the sports world too. We can only hope that they get a lot in return and are smart with what draft picks they do end up with.
