This offseason, there are some around the football world that believe the Chicago Bears should trade quarterback Justin Fields.

In doing so, those same people believe the Bears should select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the no. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

While Young is undoubtedly going to be at least a good pro, if not great, the idea of trading Fields this early in his career is simply unfathomable. Yet, we continue to hear outlet after outlet suggesting that there’s merit to these rumors.

One plugged-in analyst, however, doesn’t believe the smoke. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah recently said this when asked about the possibility of a Fields trade:

“I’d be shocked if they traded him,” Jeremiah said.

NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah seemed to shut down any Chicago Bears, Justin Fields trade rumors

One of Jeremiah’s biggest points in regards to a possible Fields trade is something that’s not being talked about enough:

“If he becomes a star elsewhere, that’s going to be your (Ryan Poles’) legacy unless the guy you draft is better.”

Why is nobody else now slamming the table with this exact response?

All we’ve seen on today’s hot take, sports morning shows and radio bits are tons of opinions on why the Bears should trade Fields, why he can’t pass and why he’s a one-dimensional quarterback.

First of all, those folks need to go sit down and watch some film, because Fields can deliver some straight-up lasers. Whoever told you Fields couldn’t pass… those people need to go do their homework.

Second, Jeremiah is exactly right. If Poles opts to trade Fields, and he goes on to become a star somewhere else, that goes down as one gigantic stain on Poles’ legacy — and he just became an NFL general manager last year!

Now, if Fields somehow doesn’t pan out, then Poles has plenty of draft capital going forward to find “his guy.” This is a much more reasonable scenario than possibly trading a kid who could go on to become the next Jalen Hurts.

Is it really worth the risk? I don’t think so. Jeremiah is right on the money.
