Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Surprise team trades for number 1 pick
By Ryan Heckman
If you thought the Bears were done with offense, think again. In the fourth round, the Bears turn their attention back to helping out their quarterback by selecting a guy who can get downfield in a hurry. Oklahoma’s Marvin Mims is one of the more versatile, and scary, wide receivers in this class.
He has the ability to get down the field quickly and is a great deep ball tracker. But, he”s also dangerous after the catch. For his career, he averaged almost 20 yards per reception in college. That’s astounding, and catching passes from a quarterback who likes to sling it will do Mims wonders in the pros.
After selecting Mims, the Bears go back to defense in the fifth round by picking Michigan cornerback DJ Turner. The six-foot Turner is one of the faster corners in the draft, and that should be noted after watching what mid-round rookie Tariq Woolen did for Seattle last year.
Turner can keep up with any receiver, and that alone makes him well-worth the selection. He could work on his strength a bit, but Turner’s ability to stay with his receivers should catch Matt Eberflus’ attention. The coach’s mentality of running and running hard will shine through a rookie like Turner.
