Chicago Bears Mock Draft: Surprise team trades for number 1 pick
By Ryan Heckman
Before we get to the second trade of the round, the Bears will select Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski at number 11 overall. This pick automatically allows second-year pro Braxton Jones to move over to the right side, where he might be even more effective and comfortable.
Skoronski is looked at as arguably the best tackle in the draft, alongside Ohio State’s Paris Johnson Jr. For a while now, though, it has been Skoronski as the unquestioned number one tackle in this year’s class. And, getting that type of player in the double digits is an enormous victory for Poles.
But, he’s not done there. Poles executes another bold trade to jump back into the first round and get Fields a true number one wideout.
In his second trade of the round, Poles acquires Pittsburgh’s first rounder (no. 17) and their seventh-round pick (no. 236) in exchange for a second rounder this year, fifth rounder this year, and a second and third-round pick in 2024.
With that pick, the Bears go with USC’s Jordan Addison.
The six-foot Addison comes to the Bears as a versatile receiver, who can line up both outside and in the slot. He is athletic enough, and quick enough, to work all levels of the field and run all types of routes. His footwork, and straight-line speed, allow him to pack a variety of routes into his tree.
Addison gives the Bears a true number one receiver, finally, after not having one for a couple of years (looking at you, Allen Robinson). This pick, along with Skoronski, ensures Poles is putting his quarterback first and assures fans they are ready to build around Fields.
