The Chicago Blackhawks played one of the elite teams in the NHL, the Vegas Golden Knights, on Tuesday night. They came to the United Center atop the Pacific Division looking to create some separation over the Los Angeles Kings, Seattle Kraken, and Edmonton Oilers.

Things were looking good for them early. Keegan Kolesar and Cole Guttman exchanged goals in the first period but Jack Eichel gave the Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 lead about halfway through the game. They would hold that lead until the final minute of the game.

At 19:05 of the third period, Patrick Kane found Tyler Johnson with a perfect pass and Johnson did not miss his chance. His one-time shot went in and the Blackhawks tied the game. Of course, the game then went to overtime where something amazing happened.

Patrick Kane received a pass on a breakaway with just under four seconds left and he took the hardest shot he could possibly take via a slapshot. It appeared that Kane scored with 0.01 seconds left in the overtime period and the Blackhawks won. The United Center exploded at that moment.

After further review, however, the referees somehow came to the conclusion that the goal didn’t count and it went to a shootout. It was honestly one of the craziest sequences that you’ll ever see in an NHL game.

The Chicago Blackhawks earned a win in a game that had an epic ending.

With Patrick Kane potentially on the trade block, this moment counting would have been absolutely incredible. We don’t know what the future is for him but he sure entertained the fans in this one.

In the shootout, the first five shooters lost before Tyler Johnson scored to give the Hawks the well-deserved win. They haven’t had a good year but this was an outstanding game against a really good team. Although Kane’s goal didn’t count, it was still an epic way to end the game.

Now, the trade talk will continue. The Blackhawks and Kane himself have lots of big decisions to make over the next week and a half. There are pros and cons to keeping/extending him and there are pros and cons to sending him to a contender for future assets.

It was a great way for Kane to give the Blackhawks fans at the United Center another show. It is a shame it didn’t count but this won’t be a night people soon forget.

The Golden Knights are one of the teams that are rumored to have an interest in Patrick Kane. Now, the Hawks are headed south to play another team that wants him in the Dallas Stars. Expect more great play from Kane as he is starting to really heat up.
