Blackhawks News: Patrick Kane speaks about being traded again
The Chicago Blackhawks earned a very interesting win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night. After the way the Leafs defeated the Hawks just a couple of nights prior north of the border, it didn’t seem likely that the Hawks would have a chance here but they did it.
A big reason for the win was the play of Patrick Kane. He scored a hat trick in this one which was his first in about a year. He also added an assist on Max Domi’s empty-net goal that sealed the victory for Chicago. A casual four-point night was exactly what Kane needed.
Kane now has five goals in his last two games. Is he extra motivated now because the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs made big trades for players that weren’t him? That is certainly possible.
People think that he is washed because of the way that he has played this season but it is clearly just a result of the situation he is in. This is what happens when Kane feels good and is motivated. The rest of the league should be put on notice.
The Chicago Blackhawks have a big decision to make with Patrick Kane.
Of course, Kane has just a few months left on the eight-year deal that he signed after winning the Stanley Cup in 2015. It is a hefty cap hit but everyone wonders if he is going to be traded before the March 3rd deadline. There is a no-trade clause on the contract so Kane controls his fate.
After the big win over Toronto, he talked about his future once again. He admitted that there are talks going on between him and general manager Kyle Davidson. After being asked about his gut feeling, he said that if he knew the answer, the decision would be made already.
This is all very interesting to hear. He knows that there is a chance that he is gone but he also knows he can stay if he wants. There are pros and cons to both scenarios for Kane himself. He can stay where he is comfortable or he can go have a chance to win another Stanley Cup.
For the Blackhawks organization, keeping Kane would be nothing but a con. There are no pros other than getting to see Kane play meaningless hockey for them down the stretch. They can get assets for him and become a worse team with better odds at the lottery.
This is a conversation that will be exhausting for Kane by the time the deadline rolls around but it is something that most players have to deal with every so often. No matter what, he is the greatest player in the history of the franchise.
