New York Giants free agents the Chicago Bears could pursue: RB Saquon Barkley
Alas, we come to Saquon Barkley, who had been one of the most polarizing players of the last two years. Barkley came into the league as one of the most exciting players to watch with the ball in his hands. Of course, there was always plenty of talk about how strong his legs were and he earned the nickname “Saquads.”
Barkley went on to endure some significant injuries, though, and some thought he would never come back from them. In 2022, though, Barkley came back with a vengeance. He proved to be the same, explosive player who could do it all. Barkley racked up 1,650 total yards and scored 10 touchdowns on the ground this past regular season.
Chicago could end up moving on from David Montgomery, and rather than paying the guy they drafted, the Bears could opt to pay one of the biggest names in football.
It would be a risk, especially considering how running backs typically fall off after the age of 27, but Barkley will turn just 26 in February, giving the Bears the possibility of one more excellent year before he enters the unknown.
Barkley and Fields in the same backfield would be electrifying, and would pose quite the problem to opposing defenses. Think of the opportunities these guys would have to drive defenses nuts. The read-option section of the playbook could be glorious. But, is Barkley worth paying? That’s the question.
