5 things to hope that happens for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2023
By Todd Welter
The hope is the Blackhawks win the NHL Draft Lottery and the right to draft Connor Bedard (or at least get the second pick).
This year’s tanking will be for not if the Chicago Blackhawks win the NHL Draft Lottery. The Hawks currently have the best odds.
Getting the No. 1 overall pick means the right to draft Connor Bedard. The Canadian phenom is lighting up the World Juniors right now.
The youngster has one of the best shots in the game today. He has 57 career goals in 59 career games at the junior or prep level.
He is a generational talent that can turn the Hawks around as Patrick Kane did back in the 2000s.
He is dominating the World Junior Championship going on right now.

He is the type of player that could potentially shorten how long the Blackhawks rebuild goes on. Being the worst team in the NHL does not guarantee the Hawks will land the top pick. If they were to somehow not have the lottery go their way, landing the second overall pick would not be so bad.
It would mean a chance to draft the University of Michigan’s Adam Fantilli. Fantilli would probably have gone No. 1 overall in last year’s draft. The only reason he will not be the top pick in this year’s draft is because of Bedard.
He has good size for a center and currently has 26 points for the Wolverines. He was outstanding for the Chicago Steel at the junior level with 55 regular season goals in two seasons. Fantilli has the talent to get the Blackhawks trending back in the right direction.
Having either player would be a nice reward for enduring all this losing. Although, losing out on either player would make this losing all for nothing.
