With pick no. 91 in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select Iowa tight end Sam Laporta

The Bears trade up for a tight end? What?

They sure do. The more weapons you can have on offense, the better, and Sam LaPorta being there at no. 91 is too tough to pass up for the Bears. He’s not only your prototypical pass-catching tight end, but he’s a willing and able blocker. He is very good in every aspect of the game, as are many Iowa tight ends.

In back-to-back seasons, LaPorta has caught 53 passes for over 600 yards. The 6-foot-4, 249-pound tight end comes to the Bears as a nice sidekick to Cole Kmet, who broke out this season. LaPorta also makes it two Hawkeyes in a row for the Bears in this draft.

With pick no. 131 in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears select Ohio State interior offensive lineman Luke Wypler

Before we discuss Wypier, let’s establish the fact that the Bears will have solidified their offensive tackle positions already. Braxton Jones will be starting on the left side, meanwhile a free agent acquisition will be starting on the right.

For that reason, the Bears take their chances at another interior lineman who very well could come in and start, depending on what happens with guys like Cody Whitehair and Teven Jenkins.

In a zone rushing scheme, Wypler would fit well because of his athleticism. Whether or not he plugs in at guard or center is up to the coaching staff, but he’s a heck of a player to find at this spot.
