Gleyber Torres would be perfect for the Chicago White Sox going forward.

Hahn said at the beginning of the offseason that the trade market is probably what he will use to upgrade the Sox. The New York Yankees might be inclined to move Torres. They almost moved him at the trade deadline to the Miami Marlins.

The White Sox’s biggest trade chip is closer Liam Hendriks. Although, the Yankees could decide to ask for a different return. Torres would immediately upgrade the Sox lineup. Plus, he will not be a free agent for another two seasons. He is projected to make $9.6 million this season.

Getting his power in the lineup might be worth giving up some players and nearly $10 million.

Torres hit 24 home runs last season and has 98 career dingers in five seasons. He slashed .257/.310/.451 and posted a 4.1 WAR. He had a 115 wRC+2 and projects to have 120 next season. Although, he is not the greatest fielder.

He has 44 career errors and has -24 defensive runs saved. He is a career .271 hitter against lefties. Torres has above-average ratings when it comes to the barrel and hard-hit percentage.

Getting Torres in a trade is the best solution for a lineup that is going to try to crush the ball. He is a proven power hitter, unlike Gonzalez and Sosa. His not the fielder that Andrus, Iglesias, or Segura are but he still has way more upside than those three veterans.

The reason he will probably not be on the Southside is the Chicago White Sox will either lack the talent the Yankees want in return or ownership will not be willing to pay Torres through his last two years of being arbitration eligible.

Instead, the Chicago White Sox will probably repeat history and go the cheap route at second base. It did not work out last year but the Sox are expecting a different result. Some may call that insanity, but at 35th and Shields, they call it a best practice.
