The Chicago Cubs were in the mix for Carlos Correa. It seemed like they had a chance to get him as they clearly met with him but it never came to be. Instead, he came to an agreement with the San Francisco Giants.

In reaction to that, the Chicago Cubs signed Dansby Swanson to a very lucrative contract to avoid missing on all four of the big shortstops. Well, they might have jumped the gun too soon but nobody could have ever predicted what just happened.

During the day on Tuesday, it came out that the San Francisco Giants delayed the presser introducing Correa because of the fact that he failed a physical.

It seemed odd that this happened but nobody ever would have thought that he’d be leaving them as a result.

The Chicago Cubs will benefit from the huge news that came out overnight.

Around 2 AM Chicago time, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that Carlos Correa is actually going to go to the New York Mets now in a stunning turn of events. This is news that will shock the baseball world and the sports world in general.

Heyman also confirmed on Twitter that Correa will play third base for the New York Mets who have Francisco Lindor to play shortstop and Jeff McNeil to play second. Steve Cohen is obsessed with getting this team to World Series status and this is a big step.

Although the Mets are also a National League team, this is good news for the Cubs. They didn’t land Correa but his going to the Mets is better than him going to the Giants. They are both out of the NL Central division but the Cubs would rather the Mets get this guy.

The Mets were going to be an elite team no matter what. Getting Correa makes them better but it doesn’t erase the fact that the Mets are a very good team and definitely playoff bound. With the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the same division, it will be fun to watch them duke it out.

As for the Giants, they lost Carlos Rodon, Aaron Judge went back to the Yankees, and they didn’t get the deal done with Carlos Correa. All of the other shortstops are taken already as well. That leaves the Giants without much improvement.

Knowing the Mets were getting a playoff spot anyway, the Cubs might now have a chance against that Giants team in the Wild Card race. With Correa, it would have been much more difficult.

Again, this is amazing for the Cubs because they are closer to being even with the Giants now which could help them get a playoff berth. It will all depend on health and consistency.
