Lucas Giolito is the first pitcher involved in recent Chicago White Sox rumors

First up in the rumor mill is White Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito. The 28-year-old has been with the Sox for six years now, having made one All Star appearance back in 2019. That season, Giolito was electric for the Sox. However, he hasn’t made it back to that form since.

To date, Giolito’s ERA has never been as low as it was that year (3.41) with at least 100 innings pitched. In fact, that number has slowly increased season over season since then. He also notched a career-best 228 strikeouts that season, and only came close to that number again in 2021 when he struck out 201 batters.

Last year, his ERA was up to 4.90 over 161.2 innings pitched, finishing with 177 strikeouts. Giolito’s WHIP was up to 1.435 — his highest number since 2018. It was not a good season for Giolito, therefore it makes sense that some teams may want to buy low on a guy who is still relatively youthful.

Would the Sox be willing to entertain offers for Giolito, though? This is a guy, after all, who has received AL Cy Young votes in the past three years.
