The Chicago Cubs might need to give up prospects and MLB talent in this deal.

If the Chicago Cubs were to make a deal like this, they might actually need to give up more than just a couple of prospects. It might take an MLB-proven player as well. Tyler Glasnow is good enough to command pretty much anything that the Rays want back.

In this deal, the Cubs part ways with their top prospect Peter Crow-Armstrong. He is a great player that had a breakout Minor League year in 2022. He jumped all the way up to the top prospect spot in the Chicago Cubs organization.

That is something to be proud of but he also increased his trade value even more as he was already traded once for Javier Baez.

Ian Happ was supposed to be traded during the 2022 season but that never came to be. He was a part of the farewell tour with Willson Contreras but they both stayed. Contreras is probably gone but Happ will stay unless he is traded. Tampa Bay would be getting an All-Star caliber player here.

Ed Howard is a former first-round draft choice from 2020 and he has a lot of potential at the shortstop position. If the Cubs sign a big-time middle infielder and keep both Nico Hoerner and Nick Madrigal, trading Ed Howard might be the move.

This would be a big-time move for the Chicago Cubs but one that shows a commitment to getting better on the fly. If they made a trade like this, it might be well worth it one day.
