3. St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals would be perfect for Willson Contreras in 2023.

The Chicago Cubs have a long-lasting rivalry with the St. Louis Cardinals. It is amongst the best rivalries in all of baseball and even in North American sports. These two teams have had some intense battles for a long time.

However, that does not change the business side of the game which suggests that the Cardinals are the perfect landing spot for Willson Contreras should he actually go through with leaving the Chicago Cubs in free agency. In every way, he would be amazing for that franchise.

He is looking for money, playing time, and a chance to win which are all things he’d get as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. Don’t be at all surprised if Contreras is the enemy in 2023 and beyond.

Yadier Molina has retired. The long-time great Cardinals catcher spent his final season there with Albert Pujols in 2022 and they were outstanding. They won the NL Central with relative ease but those guys are gone now.

In 2023, adding someone like Willson Contreras would help them keep it going. Both Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt are MVP nominees (and one of them should win) and both of them are returning as well.

Contreras would mesh well with that pitching staff and be a great addition to what is an awesome lineup. Instead of being the main power guy there, he’d be just another great power bat that can provide so much more. It is honestly an easy fit for both the Cardinals and Contreras.

There are going to be a lot of teams that pursue him now that it is out there that he is a free agent but one of these three would be the best realistic fit for him.
