The Chicago Bears need to think about benching Sam Mustipher

Last week against the Giants, Sam Mustipher did something not many would have thought was possible. According to his Pro Football Focus page, Mustipher finished the Giants game with a pass-blocking grade of 1.5 — yes, that’s out of 100.

Think about that for a minute. Had Mustipher not suited up, he would’ve finished with a 0.0. Mustipher indeed played, and he just about got his quarterback killed.

The supposed starting center, Lucas Patrick, has been playing guard and could relieve Mustipher at center if Luke Getsy so chooses. Now, Patrick hasn’t been perfect either. But, Mustipher might be the worst starting interior lineman in all of football through four weeks. At this point, with Cody Whitehair going on IR, it’s going to be tough to make a case for Mustipher to be benched.

With a lack of depth up front, the Bears could opt for Patrick starting at center with Teven Jenkins and Michael Schofield at the guard positions.

Hey, at this point, Fields looks like he’s going to get hurried and hit no matter what. It’s worth trying something different.
