The good and the bad in the Chicago Bears in their loss to NYG
By Todd Welter
The Chicago Bears defense got picked about by quarterback Daniel Jones…on the ground.
Jones did not shred the Chicago Bears through the air. He did carve them up with his legs as he rushed for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
He fooled the Bears’ defense on play-action and bootlegs. The Bears were so focused on stopping Barkley that they forgot to cover the outside run lanes and Jones took advantage.
The Giants’ offensive line got beat up last week against the Dallas Cowboys. This was a prime game for Robert Quinn to cause some havoc. He barely cracked the box score with a tackle and quarterback hit.
Quinn looks more like his 2020 version where he looked like a free agent bust and less like his 2021 version where he broke the Chicago Bears franchise record for sacks in a season.
The Giants only passed 16 times so there were not a lot of chances to get sacks but the Bears still needed the pass rushers to set the edge and get into the backfield sooner.
Rookie cornerback Kyler Gordon continues to struggle in coverage. He once again had a rough game. He probably would have been sent to the bench by now on most teams but with Jaylon Johnson out, Gordon was needed.
It should be noted Kindle Vildor had a solid game playing opposite of Gordon. He did not yield any big plays and has strung two good games together. He is starting to show that there is hope he can be reliable No.2 corner in the NFL.
Rookie Velus Jones Jr. made his debut after missing the first three games with a hamstring injury. He muffed a punt in the fourth quarter that derailed any realistic chance of tying the game.
The Bears need to correct a lot of their issues before they head to Minnesota on Sunday. If they do not, another bad game might be on the horizon.
