3. Ozzie Guillen

Ozzie Guillen has remained a fan favorite since his days as Chicago White Sox.

When the Chicago White Sox hired Tony La Russa after the 2020 season, part of the reasoning was White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf wanted to right a wrong after La Russa was fired originally by the White Sox during the 1986 season.

In hiring La Russa for a second time, Reinsdorf failed to realize that the year was 2021 and La Russa hadn’t managed in 10 years. That is not how you advance your organization.

To that end, no, Ozzie Guillen should not be a candidate to replace La Russa as the White Sox manager in 2023.

The last time that the White Sox won a postseason series, Guillen was their manager as the team won the World Series in 2005.

Guillen’s time with the White Sox came to a controversial end due to conflict with the general manager Kenny Williams and his rights were traded to the Miami Marlins after the 2011 season.

Guillen was fired by the Marlins after one season and has not managed since. Guillen remains popular in Chicago due to his work on the White Sox post-game show on NBC Sports Chicago but that popularity is no reason for him to be the team’s manager entering 2023.
