Bruce Bochy is someone that the Chicago White Sox can consider for 2023.

Bringing a manager out of retirement and adding him to a contending team? That strategy did not work for the Chicago White Sox when they hired Tony La Russa after the 2020 season but that shouldn’t prevent the team from considering Bruce Bochy for their managerial opening.

Bochy retired from managing after the 2019 season with the San Francisco Giants but USA Today baseball insider Bob Nightengale reported earlier in the summer that Bochy’s name is being discussed for potential managerial openings in 2023.

Unlike La Russa, Bochy does have experience managing modern baseball. That has been a big problem for the Chicago White Sox in La Russa’s tenure so they need to address it. This can be a very good team if they bring in someone better connected.

Bochy managed the Giants from 2007 through 2019. In that span, Bochy totaled three World Series titles. In the same span, the White Sox haven’t won a single postseason series.

The question remains whether or not Bochy would want to return to managing Major League Baseball. Bochy is set to manage France’s national team in the World Baseball Classic next March but hasn’t commented on whether or not he would be open to a return to Major League Baseball.
