3 players the Chicago Bears need to break out against the Texans
By Ryan Heckman
1. It’s time for the Justin Fields breakout game
Through two games, the Texans are ranked 26th against the pass, giving up over 270 passing yards per game. Granted, Houston’s defense has gone up against an aging Matt Ryan and Russell Wilson in a new uniform. Though Ryan is getting older and Wilson is adjusting to a new team, they’re still former Pro Bowl players.
Now, it’s Fields’ turn to take on a defense that has yet to impress through two weeks. Unfortunately for Fields, he has failed to impress in two games as well. But, the vibe around Fields, in Chicago, remains positive. Again, this has to be his get-right game.
Much of Fields’ game on Sunday will be on the shoulders of Getsy, though, who needs to try and do exactly what he did on the initial drive in Green Bay. Establishing the run is important, but then Getsy must utilize play action and designed rollouts. The Texans do not have nearly as potent a defensive front as Green Bay, therefore Fields should have a bit more time to work with.
Now, he has to be decisive. There have been times both last year and early this season in which he’s not shown the decisiveness needed in this league — and that’s to be expected being a young quarterback. But, the Texans have given up the fourth-most passing first downs in football this year, so far (31).
This is a golden opportunity for Fields to improve, develop further and build some confidence.
