Ryan Poles revitalizes Chicago Bears roster in this early 2023 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
With that pick the Bears received in the trade via Seattle, they go straight up front to truly invest in their quarterback by adding strength to the offensive line. Every once and a while, Northwestern produces a genuinely great professional prospect, and next year their best asset to the draft is going to be offensive tackle Peter Skoronski, who took over from current NFL stud Rashawn Slater.
Going into the 2023 season, the Bears may only have one starting tackle with Braxton Jones looking as though he’ll have a spot locked in. That’s the hope, at least. Otherwise, maybe Larry Borom has a future as a starting tackle. Maybe he doesn’t. It’s not going to be Riley Reiff’s job for years to come, that’s for sure.
Poles goes into the trenches by selecting Skoronski to come in and immediately cement a starting position up front.
Skoronski stands 6-foot-4 and weighs in around 315 pounds. He has prototypical tackle build, and one of his best abilities is to get into his passing sets quickly. He is lightening quick off the line of scrimmage, making him an ideal tackle to handle those quicker pass rushers.
While he is a good run blocker, Skoronski shines brightest in pass protection — and if Fields is to have long-term success, he’s going to need to be standing upright. Landing Skoronski, here, gives the Bears an incredible one-two first round.
