Chicago Blackhawks: 5 worst contracts in the Central Division
The Chicago Blackhawks have had some intense battles with Jamie Benn.
Jamie Benn is one of the greatest players in the history of the Dallas Stars. He has been their captain for a few years now and will always be remembered for what he has done in his career there. Unfortunately, he is now on the worst contract in the division and maybe the league.
He is currently 33 years old so his decline has clearly begun but he still has three more years on his deal at 9.5 million dollars per year. That is a lot of money for a player who isn’t nearly as productive anymore.
He is the second highest paid player on the Stars and the guy ahead of him is Tyler Seguin who is also on this list. In 2021-22, Benn had 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points in 82 games.
Those aren’t terrible numbers but they aren’t even worth a five-million-dollar player let alone a 9.5-million-dollar player. It is just a bad contract for the Dallas Stars right now and there is really no way of getting out of it.
It is sad because the Stars are close to being Stanley Cup good with the roster that they have and that includes an underperforming Jamie Benn (and Tyler Seguin). If either or both of them can find the fountain of youth, they might be able to make a deep run.
The Central Division is very good and very well could produce the Stanley Cup champion as really the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes have no chance at the playoffs. There are some bad contracts there but the better teams will work around it.
