The Cubs win the Field of Dreams Game over the Reds

The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds put on a great performance at the Field of Dreams Game in Iowa. It was the second year that Major League Baseball put on the event.

It didn’t live up to the year prior when the Chicago White Sox walked off the New York Yankees to end one of the best regular season games in league history but it was still incredibly fun to watch. Each team and the league should be thrilled about this event.

The Cubs took a 3-0 lead over the Reds in the first inning and didn’t look back. Seiya Suzuki got the scoring started as he hit a ball to the gap and brought home Patrick Wisdom. It was a great way for Chicago to get the game started.

Drew Smyly got the start for the Cubs. He went 5.0 innings of shutout baseball. He had nine strikeouts to only two walks and allowed just four hits. It was a spectacular performance for him on such a big stage. He should be proud.

One hitter that should be extremely happy is Nick Madrigal. He had three hits and one RBI. It has been a tough season for him (his first with the Cubs after being traded over by the White Sox) but he is looking to end strong so that he can go into 2023 strong. This was a good game for him.

Ian Happ also had himself two hits and an RBI. It was a huge game for him just a week after he wasn’t traded away at the MLB Trade Deadline. He stuck around which means that the Cubs got to keep a great player.

Everyone thought that the 2022 MLB All-Star Game would be the last big moment for him in a Cubs uniform but he had another here on Thursday night. Happ is a very good Cub and he might be for a long time if they work out a long-term deal.

Even the Cincinnati Reds players deserve credit for this game. Joey Votto has been one of the best players in the league during his career and it was amazing to see the broadcast showcase him the way that they did. It was so much fun to watch from that aspect.

This was the type of game that should make Cubs fans very happy. They aren’t going anywhere this season but they are still clearly a big franchise in the league. Being involved in this game proved that for them. Hopefully, everyone enjoyed the game as the Cubs put together a big win on one of the league’s biggest stages during the regular season.
