The Chicago Blackhawks are going to be a very bad team in 2022-23. However, that doesn’t mean that the year won’t be successful. They want to win the lottery so that Connor Bedard can call Chicago home. The second and third pick would land them an elite prospect as well.

They are hoping that the 2022 NHL Draft was one where they added a few players that can be a part of the future core as well. The Blackhawks selected Kevin Korchinski with the seventh overall pick in the draft. He has played for two years with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL.

Instead of going back to juniors, however, it appears as if he is turning pro as he signed his entry-level deal with the Blackhawks on Wednesday. It is a three-year deal with 950 thousand dollars per year against the salary cap.

It is unclear if the defenseman will start the year with the NHL club or play for the Rockford Ice Hogs but both are possibilities. He is 18 years old so he has a long way to go before he is a truly impactful defenseman in the league.

The Chicago Blackhawks believe in Kevin Korchinski as he signs his contract.

This signing at this time shows a lot of commitment for the Blackhawks as they clearly believe in the potential that Korchinski brings to the table. He was their target going into the draft and they landed him which makes you respect Kyle Davidson for getting his guy.

The Blackhawks are a team looking to rebuild the right way now. Korchinski is someone that could develop into a player that sticks around for a long time. It is on the Hawks to work with him and get him what he needs to be successful.

Korchinski was selected with the pitch that the Ottawa Senators sent to Chicago in the Alex DeBrincat trade. That alone will add some pressure on Davidson to hit on the pick but it isn’t Korchinski’s fault. He just needs to work on his game to the best of his ability.

This isn’t the last time that you will hear about him this season as he figures to make an impact with whatever team he starts with. You can be pretty confident that he will make his NHL debut at some point in 2022-23. How long he stays remains a question.
