Chicago Bears trade Roquan Smith in one of these 5 deals
By Ryan Heckman
Trade Number 5: Roquan Smith goes from the Chicago Bears to the Washington Commanders
Lastly, the Bears could look to a familiar face in Ron Rivera and send him one of the league’s best linebackers to pair with one of the league’s best pass rushers in Chase Young.
The Washington Commanders have an intriguing defensive core which was very, very good two years ago. But, last season, they fell off. Of course, losing Chase Young was a difficult hurdle to get past in 2021. But, with Young back and healthy, the Commanders defense is a sneaky unit that could surprise some folks this coming year.
In this deal, the Bears would get a future first, second and fourth-round pick from the Commanders. They would also get Washington linebacker David Mayo.
Mayo is a 28-year-old veteran who has mostly filled in as a backup for the majority of his career, but has been a serviceable player over his 7-year NFL career. He was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers back in 2015, spent four seasons there and then played two years with the Giants.
Mayo could come in and compete for a starting gig in what would be a pretty muddy linebacker room after the Bears lose Smith.
The picks the Bears would receive could end up being anywhere from middle of the pack to upwards of top-10, as for the first rounder.
