Tuesday morning was just another day in the life of a Chicago Bears fan. Historically, it has not been a life for those of a faint heart.

Bears fans were grasping onto the little hope they had for the 2022 season, despite knowing the team won’t be too competitive this year. Seeing Justin Fields take a leap and watching the team’s effort under new head coach Matt Eberflus was enough, so long as the 2023 offseason will see this organization take a big step.

New general manager Ryan Poles, though, is now facing his toughest challenge yet.

All Pro linebacker Roquan Smith has officially requested a trade as of Tuesday morning, putting a world of hurt over the fan base.

Roquan Smith officially requested a trade away from the Chicago Bears, which brings a lot of questions.

After still being far apart on an extension, Smith wrote a short letter stating his trade request and a few other tidbits, including the fact that the offer presented to him by Poles and the Bears was not a good one for him, nor the rest of the linebacker market.

With an insulting offer on the table, Smith felt no other choice but to formally request a trade from the Bears. Now, the end of his letter did leave the door open for a last-ditch effort from the McCaskeys.

But, should Smith and the Bears be unable to come to terms, then the question becomes, where does he go?

Smith is 25 years old and just entering the prime of his career. He has been relatively healthy over his career in Chicago and is already being put in the same company as a legend like Ray Lewis with some of the accolades he’s been able to put together.

If Smith is traded, there will be plenty of teams calling. But, five trades in particular make a lot of sense for both sides.
