Going into the 2022 offseason, there were a few clear needs for this Chicago Bears team. One of the primary concerns was, of course, at wide receiver.

Fast forward through the draft and free agency period, and the Bears were still without many answers at wideout.

Over the weekend, the Bears’ questions at wide receiver became even greater after three of them were out due to injury. Velus Jones Jr., Byron Pringle and N’Keal Harry all sat out Saturday’s practice.

Jones was dubbed “day to day” by head coach Matt Eberflus, while Byron Pringle is going to be out a little while, according to the head coach. Meanwhile, the Bears’ newest addition to the group could end up being out a significant amount of time. Harry had to be helped off the field Saturday due to an apparent foot/ankle injury.

If Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears want to address the wide receiver position, they need to do so as soon as possible.

With Darnell Mooney and Equanimeous St. Brown as the two key guys available and making plays in camp, the Bears are left without any other real options aside from the journeymen like David Moore, Dante Pettis and Tajae Sharpe.

The fact that Jones will be back soon is great news. However, Pringle could end up being a big loss if he’s out for any extended period of time. Harry, though, could have become a main outside threat for this offense, and it appears as though he’ll have to wait a while to prove it.

With the free agent pool drying up over the summer, the Bears still have a few options they could bring in to training camp. This won’t be a year where the Bears are competitive, but the fact remains that this team needs to do what they can to help Justin Fields in his second year.

If Poles wants to add a receiver, he could look at three particular guys who have one thing in common: speed.
