The 2021 6th round selection is fighting for a roster spot, but his speed and impact in the return game could make some noise this preseason.

3.) Dazz Newsome

Dazz Newsome is the only non-rookie on this list. Even so, a spot on the 53-man roster is far from locked up. However, with Newsome seeing some action in the special team’s game last season, the Bears might end up keeping him around.

Newsome’s rookie season was far from spectacular. In 2021, Newsome returned 6 punts for 75 yards and caught 2 passes for 23 yards.

These stats are nothing spectacular, but thankfully for Newsome, the Bears wide receiver room looks to be thin. So far this training camp, Newsome has surprised some people with his route running and deep ball ability, making crowd-pleasing catches multiple times in the first week.

Some analysts expect Newsome to claim one of the last roster spots this season due to his big play and special team’s abilities. As far as the rotations for the preseason, the only two wide receivers that I expect to not play too many snaps would be Darnell Mooney and Byron Pringle.

Aside from those two, the rest of the Bears receiving core should be expected to receive equal opportunity in the race to the last roster spots. I would keep an eye on Newsome, because a few big plays could seal his spot in Chicago.
