Chicago Cubs Rumors: Juan Soto trade is incredible news
The Chicago Cubs are getting ready to have a big last few hours before the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline. They have some star players that they are getting ready to move on from in favor of prospects for the future. It is going to be interesting to see how it goes.
Ian Happ is one of the star players that is going to be on the move. He was a member of the 2022 National League All-Stars and deservedly so because he is having a magnificent year. It was his last big moment in a Cubs uniform.
The problem is that before teams acquire him, they needed to wait on one other player to get moved (or not moved). It has been known for a few weeks now that Juan Soto might get traded because he doesn’t want to sign long-term with the Washington Nationals.
Before Happ got moved to another team, people probably wanted to wait for Soto to either get traded or hear the news that he won’t be moved. That would make Happ the fallback plan for anyone that is looking to bolster their outfield down the stretch.
The Juan Soto trade is one that is going to help the Chicago Cubs move Ian Happ.
Well, it finally happened. The Washington Nationals traded Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres. A huge haul of prospects is going back to the Nationals in return for Soto as expected. San Diego is also going to get a very good player in Josh Bell as a part of the deal.
This news is significant for the Cubs for a variety of reasons (they will have to see him on that great National League team) but the biggest reason is that the Cubs can now move Ian Happ to a team that missed on him.
It was originally thought that the New York Yankees and New York Mets would be in on Soto. They are two teams that were out of the mix early but could still look at Happ. The other two teams that missed on him are the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Yes, it is hard to see the Cubs trading Happ to the Cardinals but you just never know when a rebuilding team is trying to get the most value. Now that Juan Soto is gone, the Cubs can really get to work on Happ which is incredible news. They should end up being happy with the return.
