The Chicago Cubs are going to be massive sellers before the deadline on Tuesday afternoon. They have already dealt a couple of different relievers as they look to stockpile prospects in their system. Next on the list might be some of the stars.

We know that Willson Contreras is one of the biggest fish on the trade block right now. He was the starting catcher for the National League All-Stars because of how fantastic he has been with the Cubs this season.

Contreras has also been important to the Cubs because of what the Cubs have done with him there. They won the World Series and made many other deep playoff runs with him as the primary catcher behind the plate. He is going to be missed when traded.

The good thing that may come out of it is that the Cubs are going to get some young prospects that will help them in their quest to rebuild. You would think that a multi-time All-Star and World Series champion would fetch a heavy haul.

The Chicago Cubs were helped out by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night.

The Cubs were helped out by the Boston Red Sox on Monday night as they traded their catcher Christian Vazquez to the Houston Astros. A few minutes later, Boston acquired Tommy Pham so it is hard to call them sellers but they helped out the Cubs.

You can make this claim that they helped the Cubs because of the fact that they took a heavy hitter out of the catcher sweepstakes. The Houston Astros are now out as Vazques is going to be their guy. That will make the remaining teams looking for one a little bit more desperate.

The New York Mets and Chicago Cubs made a very lopsided (in favor of the Cubs) trade in 2021 and now the Cubs want to do it again. With Houston out of the mix, the Cubs might be able to squeeze a little bit more out of teams like that.

Willson Contreras is going to get you a better return (you would think) than Christian Vazquez. The Red Sox landed two minor league prospects that we will learn more about in the coming hours. Hopefully, the Cubs can take advantage of this market for catchers right now.
