Cubs change rebuild path with these 3 wild Juan Soto trades
The Chicago Cubs would lose a lot of talent in a deal like this one for Juan Soto.
Juan Soto, as you’ve heard by now, is one of the best players on this entire planet. He is a pretty good defensive player but his bat is magnificent. It is a part of his game that could contribute to him winning an MVP or two in his day. He came close to that in 2021 but Bryce Harper barely edged him out.
This trade package is like a mix of the other two except there are a few names mentioned there as well. The names that are repeated in this trade are Nick Madrigal and Brennan Davis. For Madrigal, his story is interesting.
He was a fourth overall pick but his specialty is little infield singles. If he can get back to that level of consistent production, the Cubs will be super happy with the player. However, with that in mind, trading him for one final change of scenery might really help him. He is young enough for the Nationals to want him to develop there as they rebuild.
The two names that are new to this MLB trade talk are Christian Hernandez and Kohl Franklin. Hernandez is a shortstop currently playing in rookie ball and it might be a while before he gets his chance in MLB.
As for Franklin, he is the number 12 prospect in the Cubs’ system as a right-handed pitcher currently in high-A. The Cubs are hoping that he develops into a very good arm over time. They haven’t been great at doing that (developing pitching) in recent memory but times have changed on the south side.
It is unclear if the Nats will actually be able to get it done before the deadline. As the hours’ pass, it becomes harder and harder to see happening. Neither Chicago team really has a chance to pull off a deal like that but it is certainly fun to think about as they would be changed forever.
