Lots of teams will be in the mix for Chicago Cubs relievers before the deadline.

The Chicago Cubs are sellers and they have some relievers that would make a lot of sense on the contending teams across baseball. Bullpen help is always something that the good teams are looking for more of and they might even overpay for it from time to time.

Knowing this makes the Chicago Cubs a popular trade target because they have a few bullpen arms that could be on the move. The most coveted will be David Robertson who has served as the Cubs’ closer for the 2022 season so far.

In his early days with the New York Yankees, Robertson was an All-Star reliever before he became a very good closer. After a while, however, he did start to decline and that is how he ended up with the Cubs in 2022. With them, he unexpectedly went back to being one of the best in the league.

It is unclear if he will keep it up when the pressure mounts on a good team (like Craig Kimbrel in 2021) but he is going to be given a chance. He might not go to a new team and be a closer but he very well could go be a middle reliever or a setup man.

That time of year is hard on all of these players as they will find out their new address in the blink of an eye but that is the business that they sign up for. The biggest shame is that the Cubs are in this position but it is mostly all their fault. Cubs fans just have to hope that these trades help lead to a brighter future.
