The Cubs could package Ian Happ and Willson Contreras to get a top prospect.

The Chicago Cubs are almost certainly going to trade Willson Contreras. They are also almost certainly going to trade Ian Happ. Both of them were All-Stars in 2022 after having very good seasons up to this point.

Now, it would be neat to see them both move on to the same team together. After seeing how they have handled everything, it is easy to root for both of them going forward. With the Rays in the mix for both a catcher and an outfielder (Kevin Kiermaier is also out for the year), a trade like this could work.

If they did that, they could land a top-100 prospect in the deal. Carson Williams is a shortstop that is currently ranked as the number 96 prospect in all of baseball. He would become the Cub’s fourth top-100 guy which would put them amongst the best farms in the league.

JJ Gross and Colby White are both lower-ranked prospects but could still become very good players. When you are a rebuilding team like the Chicago Cubs, adding as many of these guys as possible is a great idea.

It is unclear if the Rays are actually going to make a deal for a catcher but this is the best one available. A splash like any of these three trades would make the Cubs a better organization going forward as they’d finally be able to move on to other pressing issues.
