For the entire, 100-plus year history of the Chicago Bears, their uniforms have been one of the most consistent, iconic uniforms in the league. It has not changed a whole lot over the years, while other teams have taken the opposite approach, changing it up more often.

If the Bears were to ever change their uniform, and specifically their helmet, it would have to be done carefully. There needs to be a level of precision and care taken, because this is a legendary, historic uniform.

Well, the Bears attempted to make that change for the first time in decades. Instead of their typical navy helmet, the Bears mixed it up just like much of the league is doing this year.

For two games in the 2022 season, the Bears will be debuting a brand-new look: orange helmets.

The new orange helmets were a mistake by the Chicago Bears, and there’s no easy way to say it.

This is not negativity for the sake of being negative, because there is plenty of that within Chicago media. Truthfully, these helmets are atrocious.

If the Bears were going to make a positive change, then they should have done what many fans want to see: bring the white on white uniforms back. That should be priority number one, if we’re talking uniform changes.

But, if the goal was to create an alternate helmet, then the Bears chose the wrong color. The orange looks way too much like the Cleveland Browns helmet, which is also an iconic, historic uniform.

The orange is also very loud and unsettling, compared to a white alternate. If the Bears were going for the “cool, fresh” look like many of the other teams have done, then going with a white helmet would have been a much better look. It would have been cleaner, cooler and way less obnoxious to look at.

Even if the Bears decided to roll with orange uniforms and a white helmet, that would have been a much better approach. The all-orange, though, is way too loud. It’s unsettling, to be frank.

While many other teams went the route of going black, the Bears could have followed suit even trying a black helmet. White would have obviously been the best route, but orange is by far the worst of the three options.

This, of course, is just an opinion. Plenty of fans may like the orange, and that’s fine. However, for this guy, the orange is far too loud and annoying to look at.
