Trade Number 3: The Chicago White Sox deal for Cincinnati Reds veteran Brandon Drury

This season, Brandon Drury has seen the most plate appearances he’s had in four years and is enjoying a great season for Cincinnati. His 2022 campaign has been, by far, the best of his career. The 29-year-old is currently posting a line of .275/.332/.521. He’s hit 18 home runs (a career-high, with plenty of baseball left this season) and could end up setting a career-high in RBI, with 52 at the moment (career best is 63 back in 2017).

Drury is fairly versatile, being able to play both the infield and outfield. He will be a free agent at the end of this season, so once again we’re talking about a rental for the Sox. Still, he would be an excellent bat to add for the stretch run.

In this trade, the Sox get away with trading to mid-level prospects. First, they part with right-handed pitcher Caleb Freeman, who is their no. 20 prospect at the moment. Secondly, the Reds get the Sox number 24 prospect in outfielder Luis Mieses.

Any of these deals would set the Sox up perfectly for a late-season run at the AL Central crown and, ultimately, a chance at getting hot and making a run for the World Series.
