Another season, another injury-stricken Chicago White Sox team that’s fighting to stay in it. While some argue that the White Sox are hampered by their out-of-touch manager Tony La Russa, this is a team that is still in the thick of a playoff race and could end up finding their way to a pennant.

With a whole lot of baseball left to play after the All Star Break, the White Sox are just four games behind the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. Minnesota is 3-7 in their last 10 games, while the Sox have broken even. Even after opening the second half with a loss to Cleveland, this is a team that has plenty of time to improve.

That may not be a big disparity, but it’s enough to prove that this division is still wide open. Chicago fans, natively, are pessimistic. Just look at what we’ve dealt with over the years. But, for the Sox, there is still hope at making a postseason push.

That push will be made or broken by how the Sox handle the trade deadline, which will pass on August 2.

By making a couple of trades, the Chicago White Sox could get just what they need in order to push themselves into a postseason berth.

At the moment, the Sox have a few key needs. They could use help with starting pitching, and if they were to add one more, fans would feel a whole lot better. Also, the White Sox would do themselves justice by finding themselves another bat — maybe at second base or in the outfield.

Fortunately, there are plenty of guys who will be on the move before the deadline. Some of them, in fact, may not be too far away — think just across town, for a second.

If the White Sox truly believe they could have enough to make some noise in the postseason, then they should act quickly on some key trade targets. There are three, in particular, that make sense for this ball club. Here’s how they can land those players.
