Willson Contreras and Ian Happ represented the Chicago Cubs well at the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The game was at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California and they put on a show. It was magnificent to watch.

For the ninth straight year, the American League All-Stars defeated the National League All-Stars by a final score of 3-2 so the Cubs were on the losing side again. With the club at 35-57, both players should be used to it for now.

Happ or Contreras didn’t really impact the game like we are used to seeing them do in Cubs jerseys. Happ walked in his only plate appearance and Contreras went 0-2. On defense, Contreras played catcher and Happ played centerfield while they were in the game.

Willson Contreras got to be in the starting lineup with his brother William Contreras. It was clearly very important (and fun) to them as they were able to be in the same lineup on such a big stage. Storylines like that are always so great to see in exhibition games like this.

Willson Contreras and Ian Happ were on the losing side of the All-Star Game.

The National League took a 2-0 lead in the first inning but those would be the only runs allowed. The American League scored three in the fourth thanks to back-to-back home runs and that would be it for scoring in the ballgame.

Each inning had a different kind of flare as they would mic up the players. There was one inning where Nester Cortez and Jose Trevino of the New York Yankees were both on the mic and we got to hear them talk through pitch selection. That was as good as it gets for baseball fans.

This could be the beginning of the end for both of these guys in a Chicago Cubs uniform. Willson Contreras seems to think that he could end up staying with the club but they have to trade him if he isn’t extended by the trade deadline on August 2nd.

It is less likely that Happ gets dealt but anything can happen at this point. The Cubs need to put their best foot forward as they try to rebuild this thing. They now head back to their clubs as the Cubs will play the Philadelphia Phillies to begin the post-All-Star break portion of the schedule.
